Getting the most out of rental vehicles in Spain
Granada stretches every which way,
and it's all to do with history. As the Christians of the
North swept down on the Moorish areas of Spain, the defeated
Moors withdrew to Granada. Set high over the surrouunding
country, with its back to the mountains, Granada is defensible.
It didn't help in the end, and by 1500 there were no Arabs
in Spain. But it left a legacy of sprawling areas that were
once Arab bazaars, mixed business and residential areas, and
aristocratic suburbs. You need a car.
A tip for rental car drivers
If you are driving to Granada from Malaga
or one of the other South Coast towns take the road from Almuñecar. It
a scenic run that goes up through a mountain pass, a sweet
trip, with lots of little towns on the way, and plenty of
places for a meal.
New drivers to Spain should check out our
"Driving
Regulations" page. And if you are considering getting
around the South a lot, make sure to book accommodation in
advance, particularly during the festival season. Our "Places
to Stay" page may prove useful. |
